OH Lions

Coaching Staff

The leaders who build ballplayers and better young men — meet the staff behind the Lions.

Vic Gutierrez

Vic Gutierrez

Head Coach

Victor “Vic” Gutierrez brings a professional playing and coaching pedigree to the Olympic Heights dugout. An infielder and hitting specialist, Vic has spent his life in the game and now pours that experience into developing the next generation of Lions.

Playing career. Gutierrez joined the minor leagues in 1994 and spent the next decade in the systems of the Pirates, Braves, Expos and Angels. In 1998 he led the South Atlantic League in stolen bases with the Augusta GreenJackets, and his glove helped the 1999 Lynchburg Hillcats post the best fielding percentage in the Carolina League. He later played in the Italian Baseball League and coached for the Chinese Taipei Baseball Association.

Coaching. In 2013 he helped the Sugar Land Skeeters break the all-time record for wins in a single season. Vic’s philosophy is rooted in his exposure to baseball cultures around the world: fundamentals, mental toughness, teamwork and initiative, inside a positive environment where players grow as athletes and as people.

Sam Kagan

Sam Kagan

Assistant Coach

Sam Kagan is a left-handed pitcher out of Charlotte, North Carolina who played his college baseball at Lynn University, a perennial NCAA Division II power. At 6'1", Sam brings a college arm and a pitcher’s eye to the Lions’ staff.

At Lynn he appeared across four seasons for the Fighting Knights, debuting as a freshman with work on the mound and at the plate and earning SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll recognition. He studied Sports Management, and now channels that experience into developing Olympic Heights’ young arms: command, competitiveness, and the mental side of pitching.
